Tragedy Hits UNN as it almost lost one of its female Hostel to Fire

23rd December 2015 has appeared to have taken its seat in the historic records of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a tragic day, as a scene which could only be described as DREADFUL, has befallen the entire 300 series of Okeke Hostel, UNN, as a ghastly inferno raised down all 34 rooms in less than four(4) hours.

  According to a victim of this unfortunate incident, the fire started around 7:40pm and was ignited by an electric cable which fumed uncontrollably consuming the whole series.

 " When power went off around past 7pm and was restored back, the fire started. I looked for the potter but could not see her"

The scene invited a lot of sympathizers and on-lookers who stood helplessly as the inferno magnified with the flames of ravaging gas cylinders.

 After about an hour or more, the fire fighters came to rescue the scene, but little did they do before they ran out of water.

 With the reality of the dry Harmattan, the fire burnt fearlessly up to the 34th room licking up every valuable; documents, hard-copy project, clothes, and other valuables of esteemed worth,And by extension rendering 136 students or More homeless and helpless.

 The fire soon lowered its rage with the wall at both toilet ends as defense and the fire fighters coming back to ensure it subsides completely.

We could recall that this is the third (3) fire-outbreak we are witnessing in the year 2015..
 And perhaps this appears to be the most dreaded of all recorded this year. 😔
