To my fellow LIONS and LIONESSES affected in one way or another by the fire incident:
I am sorry for your terrible loss on Wednesday Night. None of us was prepared for that Fire Outbreak , and I couldn't believe how devastating the damage was Both to Okeke Hostel, to you Okeke Hostel Occupants and We UNN Students at large, I know incidents like this make victims feel terribly violated but in all we must thank God no live was lost. I can't say I fully understand your pain because it is he who wears a shoe that knows where it pinches him, but I am equally human and i wear shoes too, so I know it is not a happy ordeal anyone would wish to experience. I pray God to help your resiliency, this upset may or may not be temporary, but please even after we all get things cleaned up, I believe the saying that "(EHI N'ENWEGHI ODU, CHI YA NA-ACHURU YA IJIJI)....THE COW THAT DOES NOT HAVE A TAIL, IT'S GOD CHASES AWAY FLIES FOR IT''. We the reigning Kings and Queens, on behalf of the UNN KINGS AND QUEENS FORUM extends our warm greetings to all the UNN staff and students. May the Joy of the season never depart from your homes even as we enjoin our Okeke sisters in mourning their losses, we pray the almighty God to grant us all the ability to survive this trying time, even as we continue our quest to restore the dignity of man.

Tragedy Hits UNN as it almost lost one of its female Hostel to Fire

23rd December 2015 has appeared to have taken its seat in the historic records of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a tragic day, as a scene which could only be described as DREADFUL, has befallen the entire 300 series of Okeke Hostel, UNN, as a ghastly inferno raised down all 34 rooms in less than four(4) hours.

According to a victim of this unfortunate incident, the fire started around 7:40pm and was ignited by an electric cable which fumed uncontrollably consuming the whole series.

" When power went off around past 7pm and was restored back, the fire started. I looked for the potter but could not see her"

The scene invited a lot of sympathizers and on-lookers who stood helplessly as the inferno magnified with the flames of ravaging gas cylinders.

After about an hour or more, the fire fighters came to rescue the scene, but little did they do before they ran out of water.

With the reality of the dry Harmattan, the fire burnt fearlessly up to the 34th room licking up every valuable; documents, hard-copy project, clothes, and other valuables of esteemed worth,And by extension rendering 136 students or More homeless and helpless.

The fire soon lowered its rage with the wall at both toilet ends as defense and the fire fighters coming back to ensure it subsides completely.

We could recall that this is the third (3) fire-outbreak we are witnessing in the year 2015..
And perhaps this appears to be the most dreaded of all recorded this year. 😔
